Personality: All outward appearances suggest that Shiro is a natural leader, capable of being composed and seeing the best options to take even in the most stressful situations. He's able to think quickly on his feet and he's adept at combat situations. He's very much a man of the military at first glance, orderly and self-disciplined, and able to be calm when need be.
But there's so much more to him than what you see at first glance. Shiro is also a deeply kind person who cares deeply about those around him, offering comfort and reassurance when needed. He has a protective streak, oftentimes willing to take on damage if it means others will be spared. If he thinks someone close to him is in danger, he will throw himself in head first to protect them. When he was captured, he even brought himself to hurt a friend so that he could take his place in the gladiatorial arena and not have to fight. Shiro will do whatever it takes to keep others safe.
The Black Lion is supposed to embody leadership and intelligence, which is definitely somethign Shiro excels at. Shiro may not be an absolute genius, but he has definitely been shown to be quick in combat and quick to understand things around him.
He's not all serious and composed a hundred percent of the time though. Shiro has been shown to be able to be just as goofy as the other Paladins, whether it be joining in food fights or cracking jokes -- usually at his own expense. He can cut loose right along with the others if they've got a moment to themselves. He's also been shown to be very interested in Monsters & Mana, their universe's version of Dungeons & Dragons and, while maybe not the best player, genuinely throws himself into playing with very little worry or embarrassment.
Despite showing signs of PTDS and severe trauma multiple times due to his year as a prisoner, Shiro is good at putting on a brave face for others or ignoring whatever is nagging at him. He is talented at keeping himself under control, although he has had his moments of panic in the past. Beyond mental scars, he also seems to have self-image issues, particularly regarding his prosthetic arm. It's a reminder of the people who kept him and hurt him. It could also be said that his self-worth isn't the highest either. He's willingly put him in situations where he could die just because he doesn't want to lose his friends again.
It's very clear that Shiro shoulders a lot of responsibility and carries a lot of weight on him at all times. He isn't the type to give up easily, on others or the universe, and will do whatever he can to keep moving forward.
